I strive everyday to be super mom... a super human. My goal is to, as Bernard Shaw put it, "be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no "brief candle" to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and want to make burn as brightly as possible before handing it on for future generations."

RELAY FOR LIFE

May 15th at the American Cancer Society's Relay for life event, I spoke to the crowd during the opening ceremony about "Triumphing Over Challenge." I likened the challenge of Cancer to a terrible storm and how ultimately one must choose if he/she will dance in the rain. I have known many people effected by cancer. My mother, my brother-in-law, father-in-law, aunt and grandma and other friends. I am so proud of them for the challenges they have overcome and the hope that lives within them that Cancer will one day be eliminated.

FIESTA UNIVERSAL

May 2 I was honored to be one of the speakers at the Fiesta Universal event in Town Square. I was asked to speak about the power of education. What an easy topic.. afterall I am living proof of the power of education! Beyond my stint as a professional student for years now, everyday is a lesson in life. I never stop learning and growing. Do you?

CASA & MARCH OF DIMES

The CASA KID'S PICNIC was a HUGE SUCCESS THANKS TO
ANGELA SPEIGHT & MARIS BLAIR. They worked hard to make everything perfect for the CASA kids. Fishing, games, food, music, moonwalks and a velcro wall made the afternoon GRAND for many! My favorite part was helping Jill with the art projects for the kids to paint tiles.
The same day was the March of Dimes event and I had the priviledge of welcoming in the participants at the finish line. I was fortunate enough to snap a picture with the ambassador family.

CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

In honor of Child Abuse Prevention month, I proactively sought out
opporunities to spread awareness about CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

I contacted businesses in Market Street and a few agreed to passout info in their stores throughout the month. Mike Schinn from Learning Express is a huge CASA supporter and Nizhoni boutique also offered to give back to CASA monetarily by donating a portion of profits from anything in the store that was BLUE. We also set up a tent in Market Street during one of the Jazz concerts. We passed out over 200 pamphlets and then ran out! What a success! Finally, I held a jewelry party that directly benefitted CASA. Together my friends and I earned over $1000 in jewelry that CASA will receive for GALA silent auction.

SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY

Life has picked up speed in a great way and I have had many opportunities to serve in the community as well as statewide. Below are some pictures of some of the 25+ events I have attended since being crowed Mrs. Texas International just eight weeks ago!
